I want us to know that when we pray and FAST we move in the Supernatural power of God. Something’s can only be done by Prayer and fasting.
It was Jesus that let The disciples know why they couldn’t cast out a demon or have power over the power of Satan because of the issue of Prayer and fasting.
Matt 17:16-21 “And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”KJV
This father had a son that was always trying to commit suicide and through himself in the fire this father told Jesus I took him to your disciples could not help him or cure him.
Jesus said oh faithless and perverse generation. You see our faith needs to drive us into fasting
The bottom line is the disciples where curious “Jesus how come we couldn’t cast out the demon and you could?”
Jesus said because of your lack of faith. And he said remember something there is something’s that will only be done as you pray and fast.
He said this kind! This kind of demonic influences and this kind of power can only be defeated by prayer and fasting.
Church there are some things you are praying for, but what you are praying and believing for that kind only comes out by praying and fasting.
There are times you need to fast and pray
Prayer attaches us to God And fasting detaches us from the flesh and gets you into the spirit and that is needed in our day in age.
Now listen the disciples could have said how did we know that we would be dealing with a possessed boy how could we have fasted if we didn’t even know when to fast and we were going to run into this kind Jesus.
And this is exactly the point Jesus is bringing out. Jesus is calling us for a lifestyle of prayer and fasting something we do on a regular basis. Because Satan is still after our children still after our families and the will of God in our life’s.
Paul even said we need to be ready in season and out of season
2 Tim 4:2-3 “Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season;”NIV
You see we should be people of fasting and praying without anyone telling us anything or waiting for a fast to come up.
Reality is we don’t know when we will run into a situation in our life’s and families when we will need the power of the spirit to combat a demonic force and we stand up to it only to find ourselves coming up short like the disciples .
Praying and fasting should be part of our lifestyles like Jesus because we don’t know what tomorrow holds. When you look into our text we discover that this only son was in great trouble and danger.
Matthew recorded that the boy was an epileptic (lunatic), very ill, and suicidal, falling into the fire and the water. Mark described him as a mute, who often fell to the ground foaming at the mouth and grinding his teeth. After this display, the boy would go into a kind of rigor mortis. Luke said that the boy was an only son and that he would scream as he went into these convulsions. While some of these symptoms can have natural causes, this boy was at the mercy of a demon.
The disciples had been helpless to do anything. No wonder the father rushed to Jesus’ feet.
Our Lord’s first response was one of sorrow. And He embarrassed disciples, the arguing scribes, and the needy father and son, He groaned inwardly and said, “How long shall I be with you, and put up with you?” Their unbelief and spiritual perversity were a burden to Him. What must our Lord feel as He looks at powerless believers today?
Jesus delivered the boy and commanded the spirit never to return to him
The nine disciples should have been able to cast out the demon. Jesus had given them this power and authority But somehow, they had lost their power! When they asked Jesus the cause of their shameful failure, He told them: their lack of faith, their lack of prayer, and their lack of FASTING.
Like Samson, they went out to battle without realizing that their power was gone.
Judges 16:20“Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.”NIV
From their example, we see the importance of staying spiritually healthy. And the Importance of prayer and fasting.
Had the nine disciples been praying, disciplining themselves, and meditating on the Word, they would have been able to cast out the demon and rescue the boy.
Listen to me when you and I fast our faith to will be rewarded. We will see results The Supernatural Power of God comes into our life’s when we FAST and we need It.
Reality is people are counting on you to have the good’s it’s done by a life of prayer and fasting. there are many people like thsi boy all around us and God wanst you Supernaturally ready.
